A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE.
A BETTER GAME.

Our player handbook brings together bowls etiquette, teamwork and practical ways to improve. Read it online or keep a copy for your next visit.

TAKE IT TO THE GREEN

PRACTISE WITH PURPOSE.

These starting points are drawn from the club handbook. Choose one skill to work on at a time.

Jack delivery

Practise delivering the jack to short, medium and long lengths. Notice what changes in your delivery as you change the distance.

Drawing to a target

Work on both forehand and backhand. Move the jack away from the centre line, then practise drawing around or under a bowl.

Weight and control

Vary the task: draw to the ditch, play a metre through the head, then practise forcing shots. Give each session a clear purpose.

Teamwork and confidence

Encourage your teammates, use positive body language and focus on the bowl you are about to play. Review what worked constructively after the game.

GOOD BOWLS. GOOD ETIQUETTE.

Be ready when it is your turn. Keep quiet and still while another player delivers, and be mindful of neighbouring rinks.

Respect possession of the rink and your teammates’ roles. Leave bowls in place until the result of the end has been agreed, and recognise good play on both sides.

The handbook has more detail on behaviour during a game and working together as a team.
